I started this challenge to get myself motivated and out of the house. Prior to November 2014 I was a very active and in decent shape.
I am a United States Navy Reservist and our unit was called up for my 3rd deployment. In the beginning phase I ruptured my hamstring and also found out my rotator cuff and bicep were torn. I had surgery on my rotator cuff and bicep. Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done for my hamstring and it was a career-ending injury for the Navy.
For the next 4-5 months I was going to physical therapy religiously. The only problem I was eating a ton of junk food and gaining weight faster than I can ever remember and not able to work out.
In September 2015 I had hit a weight of 200 lbs, the most I have ever weighed in my life. I knew when I got off the scale and looked in the mirror I needed to do something about this.
I knew Brien Shamp from years past and knew he was the person I needed to go to. We chatted for a bit about what I am capable of doing now and my eating habits. I knew this challenge was for me. Not for days 1-75 but for day 76 and beyond. I knew days 1-75 would get me in the right direction but 76 and beyond are going to be my biggest challenge.
The workouts are tough and fun at the same time. Every single exercise I do has to be modified and I am very slow at it. Pain is daily, but worth it. Mentally this is very tough. I know what my body was capable of doing prior to injuries and now this is the new me. I miss my unit and the guys that I trained with in the Navy, but now I have a new group of people at Fit Body Boot Camp I train with that are just as motivational and inspirational. They are there because they want to be and to make their lives healthier.
I did not lose the amount of weight I was shooting for; this challenge is tougher than I thought it would be. But day 76 is around the corner and I have the tools to make a better me.
