Word of the Week

The word of the week this week is Prioritize.

To prioritize is to designate or treat (something) as more important than other things.

What do you prioritize in your life? Work? Family? Education? Friends?

Where does taking care of your needs rank?

Many of us prioritized our kids given the summer break and now that the kids are back in school it’s time to focus on you again.

Maybe you don’t have kids and you prioritize work or something else in your life other than your needs?

For most this is best done soon after waking. Wake up 10 minutes earlier this week and get it done!

The word of the week this week is GROUNDED.

Grounded is being mentally and emotionally stable; making good decisions and not saying or doing stupid things 🙂

This week, whenever you feel anxious, fear, stressed or depressed, stop what you are doing and connect to the ground.

This can be done standing as we will do in our sessions MWF with the standing breathing exercise below or in any other position.

Standing Breathing:

Perform 2 minutes of diaphragmatic breathing while standing and connecting to ground.

Stand with feet shoulder width, lengthened spine with right hand on belly and left hand on chest.

Imagine there are tree roots going around the waist under the belly button with roots going down the front and back of the hips and thighs to the feet.

Connect 10 points to the ground: Imagine all 5 toes, 2 bones at ball of foot, center of arch, outer foot and heel have tree roots connected to ground with sandbags on top of feet.

Feel the strength, stability and connection to the earth.

Breathe in and out of nose for approximately 15s each breath.

Initiate breathing with belly & rib cage for 5s (expand again to get full expansion) > 5 s hold > 5 s exhale through nose.

For added bonus to change emotional state in seconds think about 3 things you are grateful for and smile because life is good!

Ground whenever and wherever!

The word of the week this week is STATE.

Tony Robbins says you can change your “emotional state” in seconds and when you master your emotions, you master life.

There are three forces in the world that determine what you feel. Tony calls these forces the Triad (FOCUS, LANGUAGE, PHYSIOLOGY).

This week, whenever you feel anxious, fear, stressed or depressed, stop what you are doing and…

either change your FOCUS (focus on gratitude), your LANGUAGE (avoid negative self-talk/negativity by others) or your PHYSIOLOGY (get up and move, dance, slow down & breathe, hydrate, get more sleep, etc.)

You can also combine forces for an even better and longer lasting change in emotional state (i.e. slow down and breathe while journaling 3 things you are grateful for).

The word of the week this week is PRESENT.

Present is the period of time NOW occurring.

Where do you spend most of your time… The past, present or future?

Dwelling on the past or the future will only cause unnecessary stress.

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present.” ― Bill Logan

Do you need to be more present in your life?

Do you rush through your day without recognizing the gifts that are presented to you each day?

Put a pause on life…

Whenever you can take slow, deep rhythmic breaths in and out of your nose.

Inhale for 5 s (feel the rib cage expand) > hold your breath for 5s > exhale through the nose for 5s (notice your rib cage relax).

While you are aware of your breathing, look around and notice all the abundance you have….your ability to control your breath, your heart, your healthy body, your clothing, your home, opportunities, family, friends, work, nature, etc.

This week, whenever you feel anxious, fear, stressed or depressed, stop what you are doing, be present, focus on slow deep breaths and at least 3 things you are grateful for NOW!
