Word of the Week: STRENGTH

The word of the week is STRENGTH.

Strength is the quality or state of being physically strong.

Gaining physical strength will help you recover from injuries and prevent them from happening in the first place.

Strength is also extremely important for your overall quality of life, especially as you get older so you can continue to perform activities of daily living with ease.

In regards to strength training, more reps are not necessarily better and often leads to injury and a reduction of muscle (which translates to a slower metabolism over time).

When focusing on maximizing your strength, you want to train with heavier loads, ones you can lift for just 1-6 reps.

When upping the intensity, always make sure form is good and you are breathing with each movement.

Even more important than physical strength is mental strength (aka mental toughness).

Mental strength is a measure of individual resilience and confidence that may predict success in sport, education and the workplace.

This week focus on your physical strength- get in at least 3 strength workouts. And don’t forget about the mental strength- do your best to reduce your stress, don’t take things personally or sweat the small things. Listen to some podcasts on you tube by Tony Robbins, the master of mindset.

“Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.” —Arnold Schwarzenegger
