Just wanted to let you know that mid-June, my family and I went to Alaska for our family vacation. We spent four days in the back country of Denali, hiking the mountains without any trails. Often, our hikes would be up 40 degree slopes and some were even so steep that we were almost lying down as we climbed. Our next stop was two days backpacking on a glacier, and I carried a 36 lb backpack, wearing snow boots and crampons to make my way over a glacier (and even did a little ice wall climbing). It was fantastic!
Before going, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with my kids (two 14-year-olds and one 12-year-old) or the other members in our Denali group; however, my training at boot camp and my hikes in the Bay Area prepared me admirably. I was strong, resilient and eager to take on whatever our guides put before us, and I kept pace with the guides and my kids.
I’d like to thank you and the other trainers of the 9:30 a.m. session for the great, all-encompassing workouts that help me prepare to take advantage of whatever adventures come my way.
Robin
