Is Your Living Model Outdated?

I hope you are having a great Friday!

Most Thursdays I have a coaching call with my colleague Dr. Heidi Dulay. Yesterday we continued our discussion on the Ketogenic Nutrition Model. Keto is an eating approach one can follow for life based upon high fat consumption, moderate protein and low carbs. This model was originally used to cure epileptic children of seizures.

Listen to part 1 here: Introduction To Ketogenic Eating – January 12, 2017

Outstanding content! Part 2 and 3 will be available soon.

The most important takeaway from these coaching calls… eat more high quality FATS to get leaner and healthier! *Consume at least 50% of your total calories from fats*

We talked about how much of the nutrition information has changed since the mid 80’s when I started with my first nutrition specialist at the age of 16. I was told to avoid fats, salt and eat every 2-3 hours. I regurgitated this information to my coaching clients till about 1997.

1999 was my breakthrough year when I won 1st place in the Met-Rx World’s Personal Trainer Contest based upon my successful weight loss transformations with a few of my clients. My clients achieved great success because they were dialed into their nutrition.
And yes, they were on a solid strength training program 🙂

It’s only been a couple years that I have focused on raising fats, lowering protein and eating approximately every 4-5 hours. Since this shift in philosophy my results have skyrocketed! Less room for error if you are not grazing all day and feel satisfied!

Sadly many people are still following outdated models. Outdated models for both food and exercise, but food is by far the worse problem. Many are still counting calories and following a low calorie diet, which makes me cringe. I have yet to see an animal in the wild count calories and I have yet to see an overweight wild animal with metabolic syndrome. Wild animals typically do not eat processed foods or load up on carbs and added sugars 🙂 I urge you to never stop learning about your body and what you are putting into it and on it.
