I saw a funny article today in the New York Times and initially thought it was ridiculous, but the more I thought about it…it just might be what some need.

Need a  motivating factor to lose weight?  Try betting on it.  Diet betting is definitely becoming more popular among friends, relatives and co-workers…

“A study in the December issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association found that people who had financial incentives to lose weight were much more successful at dieting than those who did not.”

“The site has more than 23,000 users, the highest percentage of whom (42 percent) have commitment contracts for losing weight. The site takes credit card information up front and charges your card weekly if you fail to meet your goal.” Like I said this concept seemed crazy to me initially, but I do feel that losing money can be a major incentive to stick with a plan.
