How Much Is Enough? (Who's Got It Better Than You?)

Happy Friday!

How are your goals coming for 2012?

I set a number of goals for the first quarter using my goal system I gave you at the beginning of the year. If you missed that email, I highly recommend using my system to create your goals. Here it is again: The Path To Achieving Your Goals in 2012

For those of you who are starting off the year with difficulty,  I wanted to let you know that I am also struggling with a few of my goals.

  • One of my goals to accomplish by the end of the month is to create a habit of winding down at 9:30 am, stopping whatever work I am doing and be asleep at 10 pm.
  • Another goal I have for the end of the month is to workout daily in preparation for Tough Mudder.
  • Lastly, I have a goal of more quality family time. If you don’t know me well yet, I tend to be a little addicted to my electronic devices, which can be a distraction for family communication 🙁

My struggles with my goals above got me thinking…how much is enough?

  • How successful is successful enough?
  • How many more boot camps do I need to be satisfied?
  • How many people do I need to help to feel at peace?
  • How much money do I need to feel safe?
  • Why do I feel the constant need to do more and be more?

My greatest satisfaction in life is helping another and it is like an addiction. I love to hear your success stories and make you feel better at the end of an email, a one on one session or a boot camp.

I know it sounds cheesy, but your happiness is my happiness.

Unfortunately, this desire I have for being satisfied is very costly. It is an obstacle for my goal personal achievement and in my meditation today I believe I found the root cause.

As far back as I can remember, my Father pushed me hard to succeed in the game of baseball. A bad game was a bad week…long hours of training to theoretically never have a bad game again. When I had a bad game, I felt as if I had let my Father down.

This then went on long after my baseball days and into my work world. When business was bad, I still felt disappointment in my Father and to this day I do what I can to not let him down.

This awareness of my need for satisfaction is big! I am going to continue to work on my stuff and I look forward to what comes up.

This got me thinking about my clients and you…

How much is enough for you?

How lean is lean enough?

How much money do you need?

How much better do you need to look?

How successful is successful enough?

How big of a house do you need?

How many degrees is enough?

How many social events do you need to commit to?

Not having enough can create a lot of pain and can increase stress in every area of life- work, friends, family, etc. Physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, chemical and nutritional stress then follows and then there is disease and more pain.

As you know, many come to me to lose weight and decrease pain. I do my best to help my clients become aware and reduce as many stressors in their lives as possible.

You know what happens…

Most reduce weight, decrease blood pressure & cholesterol, auto-immune problems reduce and even go away.

Stress kills and many times a change in mindset can change a life.

The reality is…we all have it pretty dam good!

Jim Harbaugh, Coach of the San Francisco 49ers infamous motto is “Who’s Got It Better Than Us…Nobody (The Team Shouts Back).”

This mantra has worked for Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers as their victories have proven. Even if you are not a football fan the story of the 49ers this year is amazing.

Nobody has it better than you or me either. Now we need to feel it and experience the peace and happiness that comes from living it.

Check out Jim as he motivates his team after a victory:
