A few weeks ago I had a mastermind meeting in San Diego. One of my takeaways from that meeting was “How you do anything is how you do everything.”
There was a time for many years that I focused so hard on my business that everything else around me seemed to crumble. I worked so much I didn’t focus on my sleep and I was too tired to workout. Can you believe that even I, a personal trainer, couldn’t get my act together enough to workout for 3 years?! I’m sure this limited my coaching (sorry if I coached you then 🙂 )
I felt a disconnect from my family, staff and friends. I was constantly in a fight/flight response (felt as if I was always running from a bear) and lacked joy 🙁
Everything felt urgent, but I made it all up.
Nothing was urgent except for the urgency I alone created.
Nothing was truly important except for the importance I placed upon it.
At one time I actually thought sending an email out like this was urgent. Like you were anxiously waiting for my email, right? Funny, but sad as I reflect back. I used to write an article/blog to check it off my list, rather than allowing it to come from my heart. I was TRYING to find the right words to say to you rather than just letting it flow. It would take me hours to write articles that should have taken much less time.
Have you ever had writer’s block? You feel paralyzed, right? Writing is so much easier when you don’t try.
Life is so much easier when I remember not to take it too seriously.
Can you relate? I am a work in progress and I am working on how I do the little things in life.
The little things that tend to effect everything else could be: showing up late, judging others, not holding true to your word, negative self talk to yourself and others, lack of self care, disconnect from family, not giving your best effort, lack of communication, etc.
What comes up for you when you reflect on this? “How you do anything is how you do everything.” Can you think of anything you need to work on? I would love to hear your feedback.
Your friend & coach,
Brien
