Prenatal nutrition is important a lot earlier then most people would think. It actually should start six months to two years prior to conception. The nutrition factor you provide prior to conception certainly aids in development, but also lays the foundation for your child’s health future. Laying the nutritional ground foundation in utero, helps to prevent, or lower the risk for your child’s future. It is all about what we eat.
This discussion opens up a list of guidelines, and recommendations for those who are already pregnant, and those who plan to be. Some of the recommendations are listed below, however, our discussion offers a lot more on types of foods, preparation, and touches upon
the world of vitamins.
- No drinking in the first 3 months of pregnancy. Why is this important? Can you drink at all
during pregnancy? - No smoking or exposure to smoke. Smoking and second hand smoke are both extremely dangerous
during the prenatal period. - No overeating. You are, in fact, eating for two, but not in the manner most people use this statement.
In utero nutrition is very different from the foods you want to eat. - Listen to your body. When those midnight craving’s come around, do indulge. However, be
certain that you don’t over-indulge. It doesn’t take much to satisfy a craving. - How to cook your meats. Everyone has varied tastes when it comes to how they like their meat cooked.
But, is it good for you and the baby?
Most people think about nutrition once they are actually told they are pregnant, but focusing much earlier on making your body nutritionally fit prior to conception is the key to giving your baby a head start.
