Detox Daily with Juicing (Video)

Are you juicing?

Juicing has been popular for quite some time? Barry Bonds, Marion Jones, Mark McGwire and others have engaged in juicing, but that is a different type of juice. Bad joke 🙂

Seriously, if you want more energy, less body weight, improved concentration, better immune health and an improved overall sense of well-being, think about juicing.

Here is a video of my daughter Maya making some juice:

I am so excited because I finally found a juice recipe that she will drink. Add some lemon to those dark leafy greens and it tastes like lemonade. It is so hard to get your kids to eat their veggies.

We often throw lot’s of colorful organic veggies & low sugar fruits in our juicer. More colors equals more nutrients. Foods that are processed and cooked equals less nutrients. More nutrients often leads to better detoxification.

Detoxification is a process of clearing toxins from the body, neutralizing or transforming them (Source: Haas). We all detoxify on a daily basis, but some are more efficient than others given their genetics, exercise habits, work or home environments, air quality, travel schedules, food intake, quantity and quality of water intake, stress, choice of skin care products and other products in one’s lifestyle, and more.

When we do not eliminate the toxins, they are buried in the fat cells and the central nervous system. We actually create bigger and more fat cells to accommodate all the toxins in our body that are not being eliminated. The end process is we get fatter and display other symptoms of toxicity: fatigue, headaches, sleep problems, flack of concentration, muscle & joint pains, digestive complaints, etc.

Detoxification is an energy-requiring process that puts a metabolic burden on the body, so instead of decreasing nutrient support (the days of low calorie diets), a focused, high-impact source of nutrients is essential.

Juicing your  vegetables and low sugar fruits, like drinking a protein smoothie allows us to maximize nutrition. In addition, a liquid is easier to digest than eating just about anything else (not that I am recommending eating liquids all day). This is helpful for many given the epidemic of digestive ailments today like leaky hut, heartburn, constipation, gas, bloating, diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, gluten & dairy intolerance, etc.

Interestingly enough, some do not have digestive complaints, but have immune issues like allergies, asthma and fibromyalgia. Those also can be digestion related given most of the immune system is located in the digestive system.

There is plenty of information on juicing on the internet. Here is one good source: Mercola

A typical juice recipe for my household includes: celery, kale, beets, dandelion, carrots, apples, lemon and ginger. There are lots of veggies & fruits that can be added and that should be determined by what is local and fresh. I go to the farmers markets weekly and I get a delivery from Farm Fresh To You. There are a number of companies that deliver organic fruits & veggies to your home or work. I like this company the best so far: Farm Fresh To You.

I was always hesitant to get fruits & veggies delivered because I like control of my food and sometimes you get things that you have never seen before. This is a good thing for the open person who wants to experiment and also good for the body.

Humans tend to follow patterns and you may know some whose patterns are unhealthy. Breakfast and lunch tends to be similar each day, as do the snacks with a few more variations for dinner. This lack of food variety is one of the problems that can lead to digestive problems, food intolerances, food sensitivities or food allergies.  Eating the same foods everyday can also lead to weight gain!

One of the downsides of juicing is the clean-up; however, some juicers are better than others. I have a Omega Juicer and it is fairly quick when you clean it right away. The other problem with juicing is not getting your protein and fats. You will have to eat this separately, although some veggies do have a descent amount of protein.

Juicing can be a beneficial addition for a successful detoxification program. There are many other elements that I discuss in the 21 Day Detox.

Tomorrow is the last day to register for my New Group 21 Day Detox Program.
