Word of the Week: CONFIDENCE

The word of the week this week is Confidence.

Confidence is the belief in oneself and one’s powers or abilities.

Given my knee injury back in Aug 2019, I have questioned my confidence a lot.

For a few months, I lost my ability to do the most basic tasks: getting on and off a normal toilet, getting in and out of bed on my own, going up & down stairs, taking a shower, driving, etc.

I remember being awake most of the night because of pain, struggling with not being able to sit in a passenger seat, and the fear of going up and down my driveway (even with a walker).

Much of my focus is what I could no longer do.

Each day was a challenge.

Thankfully after about 9 weeks the doc said I could finally start bending my knee and from that day on I felt some progress each day and still do a year and a half later.

A feeling of progress leads to greater confidence.

I can now bend my knee functionally, so I can do daily activities and workouts, but there is still a discrepancy compared to the other side. It is progress nonetheless.

I often have to focus on the progress because there are still many things I can’t do and it’s easy to dwell on the challenges.

One great way to divert focus on the challenges is to remember that I am grateful for all the healing modalities and my team that helped me get back to my normal self.

I am eternally grateful to my wife, who had to play the role of a caregiver for me.

Prior to this injury, I was not very good at asking for help. I learned that it’s ok to ask for help and it can surely make your life easier.

When you have support, confidence will be better and you will achieve your goals faster.

How is your confidence?

If low, in what area are you lacking confidence?

Many are confident in their work skills, but have low confidence in their health & well-being.

If you are lacking confidence, have you asked for help?

Often times, even a short conversation with someone who has battled the same obstacles can help you overcome a challenge and give you the confidence you need to succeed.

If you lack confidence with your health & fitness I have been in the trenches and know how to help. Reach out anytime!

Confidence is when you believe in yourself and your abilities, arrogance is when you think you are better than others and act accordingly.”— Stewart Stafford
