Hello Baseball Fans,
Many of you may not know that I have a special interest and a niche in Baseball Performance. I played baseball back in my early days from 2nd grade until I was 21 at the University of California, Davis. After my college baseball days ended due to a knee injury, I graduated with a degree in Biomechanics with the goal of helping baseball players optimize performance. In 2000, I became the Strength & Conditioning Coach for Mike Garcia at Canada College and the following year I joined Coach Doug Williams at the College of San Mateo (CSM), which is where I have been for the last 8 years.
Since I have been at CSM, we have won 8 conference titles and I have had the opportunity to work with many top notch baseball players. Most have gone on to play at major colleges and a number of them made it to the professional level.
I want to congratulate two newly signed professionals: John Karcich & Ryan Scoma. Jon Karcich of the Santa Clara baseball team was selected in the seventh round by the Anaheim Angels. Ryan Scoma of the University of California baseball team was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 36th Round.
Shoot them a facebook and congratulate them for beating the odds and making it to the next level.
Another Bay Area CSM graduate & Pro Baseball Player is Scott Feldman. Check out this video of Scott, throwing five scoreless innings for the Texas Rangers:

Scott is having a great year despite getting the loss against the Giant’s last Friday night. It was awesome seeing him pitch against the Giant’s in his home town.
I have been working with Scott for the past 5 years, which started at the College of San Mateo (CSM) where he still holds the record for the most wins in Community College. After CSM, I continued to work with Scott on his nutrition and supplement program, flexibility, strength & power. He recently told me that the Rangers got a Team Chef and Nutritionist and that my recommendations were a lot easier given he can now get whatever he wants most hours of the day. Scott said that the team has benefited a great deal from the Chef and there seems to be better energy, less injuries and improved performance.
Nutrition is one of the main variables for success for all athletes and non-athletes. It is still amazing to me that even at the Pro Level there has been very little focus in this area. We are in the year 2009 and the Texas Rangers finally got a Team Chef and Nutritionist. Even more interesting is that they are one of the first teams to implement this comprehensive approach. I have been using this approach for everyone I work with for 12 years. This is why many Pro Athletes have their own Personal Trainers, Massage Therapists and Nutritionists.
Two weeks ago, we launched the Baseball Performance Edge Program for athletes 8 & up. Check out the program here: Baseball Performance Edge
The Baseball Performance Edge Program is a more comprehensive program than most Division 1 colleges and professional baseball teams. We can also dive into the nutrition side of the equation to build the complete athlete. Check out Metabolic Typing for more on our uniquely tailored nutrition program.
While at CSM, Brien helped our team in a huge way. Not only did he keep us in great condition for baseball, but our team had no muscle related injuries the whole year! I still work with Brien every year during the off-season to help me recover from the long season and to prepare for spring training. I would recommend him for anyone who is serious about the conditioning side of baseball.
