Fat Loss Tip #17- Cook High Quality Food As Little As Possible

Thank you for the questions and comments I have been receiving about my fat loss tips. It is great to see that so many of you are interested in learning more and are striving to optimize your health, wellness and fat loss.

Fat Loss Tip#16 was Eliminate Dairy For 7 Days. 

I received a few emails from subscribers that tend to eat the same dairy foods daily- cheese and yogurt. Although, cheese and yogurt are better digested and lead to less physiological stress than pasteurized milk products, I do not recommend eating these foods or even raw dairy every day. Dairy products regardless of source are still very common food allergens. If they are not an allergen, they are often food intolerances.

We can do some specific lab testing to find out if you show up positive for an intolerance or allergy, but the best & least expensive way to find out is to take my 7 day elimination test. Remove all dairy for 7 days and then re-test. Then re-introduce your favorite dairy item one day at a time.

There is no better answer than your own symptoms. If you are in pain or gain weight with re-introduction, you have your answer.

Clinical Nutrition Specialist, Michele Bell added the next best thing to Organic Pastures Raw Dairy is Strauss Family Farms. Strauss make high quality dairy products without the normal Ultra Pasteurization.

According to the Straus Website, most organic dairies, use Ultra Pasteurization, in which the milk has been heated to a minimum of 280 degrees F. for two seconds and then immediately chilled. That’s more like steamed milk. This method typically yields a shelf life of around 60 days.

Although, the process only heats the milk for 2s, 280 degrees or more of heat changes the structure of the milk and explains why there are so many digestive & immune complains associated with pasteurized dairy.

According to Bill Wolcott, Developer of Metabolic Typing, enzyme activity diminishes after 116 degrees and enzymes are totally destroyed
at 220 degrees. For this reason, it is always preferable to cook food as little as possible and at as low a temperature as possible-Fat Loss Tip #17

Now, if you are eating out at Denny’s and have their eggs, milk or animal protein meals, by all means cook the heck out of it because they are purchasing the cheapest, low quality animal protein they can to keep costs down. These animals were raised inhumanely and are generally sick. If you eat a sick animal and it is not cooked thoroughly, you may get very sick yourself.

However, if you make a conscious effort to buy high quality animal sources that are organic, free range, hormone free and anti-biotic free, you can generally get away with cooking the product less and getting more nutrients.

Straus Family Creamery, stays close to the minimum – 170 degrees for 19 seconds, about the temperature of a cup of nice toasty hot chocolate. This method produces milk with a shelf life of 14-17 days. Their goal is to pasteurize, while still keeping their milk tasting as fresh as possible.

I personally do well on Strauss Plain Whole Milk Yogurt and have it a few times a week. Harmony Yogurt in San Carlos also uses Strauss and it tastes amazing in frozen yogurt form. I consume their yogurt because it is loaded with protein and calcium, plus the beneficial bacteria that keeps your digestive system & immune system running smoothly.  In addition, I have done multiple elimination diets, food allergy testing and other food related testing and it works well for me.

As you can tell from my Blog, I am a proponent of raw foods, and especially Organic Pastures Raw Dairy Products. Organic Pastures has recently been implicated in an E Coli outbreak, but they were cleared and the Real Milk Facts website failed to mention that.

The website also fails to mention that due to high-volume distribution and its comparative lack of anti-microbial components, pasteurized milk when contaminated has caused numerous widespread and serious outbreaks of illness, including a 1984-5 outbreak afflicting almost 200,000 people.  In 2007, three people died in Massachusetts from illness caused by contaminated pasteurized milk (Real Milk PowerPoint, slide 30).

There are many other contamination stories to share about paseurized milk and other foods on the market, but those tend not to be as significant as raw milk for the government and media.

In summary, from my research I believe it is best to eat about 50% of your food raw, and be careful of dairy,  pasteurized or raw. Try my 7 day test and see if dairy is right for you.
