Optimal Fitness Updates: New Stuff, Power Shakes, CrossFit Fundraiser and More

Happy Sunday!

Freakin’ hot out there so I thought I would hang out inside for a while and write a quick post.

I feel a shift in the air-maybe it is heat stroke, but I do feel things are changing. We have lots of new members coming to Optimal Fitness Lifestyle Center and experiencing great results.

Here is what Jenny B said on Yelp,

“Brien and his staff are the real deal. Totally committed to the health and education of their members, the team at Optimal Fitness provide a clean and not at all intimidating environment for people to get fit and healthy. I have seen such a wide array of people working out here…from athletes to older folks maintaining themselves, to people that have made the decision to take better care of themselves and are starting from scratch. I take morning classes from Shannon and Brien regularly and they have started to really make a difference! If you feel like you ready to commit to taking better care of yourself but don’t know where to start, check this place out. Their customer service is amazing and their comprehensive knowledge of health will get you to where you want to go!”

Love the new energy from all the motivated people! We have had an increase in numbers in our free group classes as part of the membership and personal training. By the way, I welcome all you non-members to take our classes one time for free to see if they are for you. Just so you know, we do not teach traditional aerobics here at the center. The classes are taught from a personal trainer perspective given we are a personalized training center. Given the new members, we have been adding new equipment and moving things around based upon members’ suggestions. Thank you all for your input.

Other new things in development are: CrossFit, Optimal Fit Boot Camp for Women and a Baseball Performance Program. More on these later.

Last Wednesday my wife Chris & I completed our second Food Preparation Clinic of the series, “Healthy Snacks & Desserts.” Lots of good recipes for those in-between meals . Check out the menu for the evening:

1. Hummus w/ Veggies

2. Thai Mango Salsa with Cucumber Chips (Source: Sam @ Cafe© Solstice)

3. Greek Quinoa Salad

4. Granola (Source: Cafe© Gratitude)

5. Chocolate Coconut Haystacks (Source: Cafe© Solstice)

If you missed the event and you are a member of the Optimal Fitness Lifestyle Center, you can access the recipes in the Members Only Library.

Our last class of the series is “Power Shakes.” I do not know when this class will be offered again given it is very hard for my wife and I to do these classes together. Lots of work given we have a 20-month year old that demands our attention these days. I do appreciate my Wife for helping me with these clinics. She has been awesome with her great cooking!

Has anyone ever told you the most important meal of the day is breakfast?

Are you having trouble finding time to cook?

Do you find that you are not hungry for breakfast?

If yes, to any of the above this clinic is for you!

Chris & I are going to give you simple recipes to make your power shakes for any time you are in need of a meal. Anyone can throw some protein powder in a blender with some water and fruit. We will give you recipes for cleansing or detoxing, as well as for losing or gaining weight. These shakes can also be used for those sweet cravings after dinner.

You will learn the following:

  • How to choose the right meal replacement or protein powders for your needs
  • How to incorporate more vegetables and fruits into your family’s diet
  • Why to eat certified organic as much as possible
  • Why to consume raw foods and how to prepare foods to get the most nutrients
  • How to make your own nut milks
  • The differences between pasteurized dairy and raw dairy
  • Risks of soy
  • The basics of detoxification
  • You will also get to taste all of the recipes to see what you like and leave with practical tips to improve your nutrition and your health.

If any of the above is of interest to you…Join us this Wednesday by signing up on-line: Power Shakes: Wednesday, 5/20/2009

Saturday, May 23, 2009 from 9 AM-12 PM, we are doing another fundraiser for the families of the fallen four police officers from Oakland. Check out the details here: CrossFit Fundraiser. Come to Optimal and get a great workout next Saturday. The San Mateo County SWAT Team and I will be there as your coaches for the event. The last event was a lot of fun. Time to get back outside in the sun…I am sure this hot weather is getting some of you to focus on that body again. It is hard to avoid the summer clothes when it is 100 degrees.  I look forward to helping anyone who wants to take their fitness to the next level and get the body they want. What are you struggling with? How can I help you achieve your summer body? Please comment below this post.

Committed to your health.
