Here is the Fat Loss Tip #15- Eat Real Food. This sounds like a fairly basic tip, but in today’s world, you have to make a big effort and really care to eat real food.
What Does “Eat Real Food” actually mean?
Real Food is unprocessed by humans and generally, does not have a label. It was most likely around 10,000 years ago and our ancestors ate it. It is not irradiated, genetically modified, fortified, pasteurized, homogenized, and does not contain artificial flavors, natural flavors, added colors, hormones, anti-biotics, and thousands of other additives. It gives you energy rather than depleting your energy.
An entertaining trailer of Food Inc. sums it up rather well: Real Food
KEEP YOUR DIET SIMPLE, ORGANIC AND PRIMAL. If a food wasn’t around 10,000 years ago, it is typically best not to eat it.
I do consume my share of whey protein, pea protein and meal replacement bars. Although, these do have a label, I look for raw, undenatured products to optimize the quality of the food.
Currently, there is a big push for food labeling. Although it would be great to know exactly what a food contains, be wary of all foods with labels.
Here is a great article, “How To Read A Nutrition Label”: Be Wary Of Labels
Many do not know they are eating processed foods.
Take non-fat milk as an example. This is one of the worst foods you can consume. Not only is the food pasteurized (heated), it is also homogenized (fat taken out). You are left with a nutritionally void, fat free (high sugar), then fortified product that most of the world can’t digest. The milk is also loaded with dead bacteria that creates an immune response.
Consume whole fat dairy products, but choose organic sources (preferably raw dairy from Earthbeam, New Leaf, Molly Stones or Lunardi’s) and you should lose weight regardless of the increased calories. This will occur given the fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) are present when the fat is still in the food item, and the higher fat food is less processed overall giving you greater nutritional content.
Key Tip: ALL FAT FREE and LOW FAT FOODS ARE PROCESSED
With food processing, the food companies strip out the good stuff like fiber and nutrients. What you have left is a food that has way more calories than normal. The worst part is that processed foods are highly glycemic, which means our body treats it like sugar.
If a food is packaged and has a shelf life of a year, ask yourself, “What is preserving this food to allow it to extend its shelf life?”
The good news is once you cut out these processed foods for a couple of weeks, you lose your cravings for sugar and carbohydrates. You will also look and feel better.
