Spring Break Travel Tips From Dallas

Happy Sunday, April 1st!

Many of you in the Bay Area are on spring break. I wish you a relaxing week. I am in Dallas for vacation with the family. It is mid 80’s and humid. What a difference from the Bay Area.

It will be a crazy week with 5 kids and 10 adults in one house with different agendas and food preferences.

Like any social situation, eating is work. I am committed to sticking to my ideal foods even when on vacation.

Some of you be thinking, “you are on vacation, let it go and have some fun.” Although it would be nice to indulge in some of my favorite foods like pizza and ice cream, the side effects of that short term fun and comfort would last for much of my week away.

My goal is to feel my absolute best as much as possible.

Is it really worth the pain you have to consume things that give you short term comfort?

For me there is nothing worse than being unproductive, reactive, feeling sick and having low energy. When my energy is low my workouts, recovery, client and family interactions suffer. These are some of my symptoms of a poor diet and lifestyle.

Last week I had a number of nutrition & lifestyle coaching sessions.Like most sessions, I spent the majority of my time emphasizing:

  1. Eating less-more often-Meal frequency
  2. Reducing starchy carbohydrates
  3. Listening to our own body’s clues immediately and 1-2 hours after a meal to identify your individual fuel source.

If we all do the above more often it will be much easier to optimize blood sugar and overall hormonal balance. We will also improve digestion and elimination.

It is almost impossible to look and feel your best if your hormones are out of balance and you are not digesting and eliminating well.

One clear sign that your system is out of whack is by being aware of your bowel movements. This is a common problem with travel, but is also common at home.

Healthy digestion and elimination = 2-4 bowel movements per day. Most women I work with had none or 1 per day prior to our sessions (they thought that was normal). They were overweight with skin problems, poor energy, sleep issues, high toxicity, yeast overgrowth and more.

That is all I have to report from Dallas. Nothing but BS!
