Here is an email I received from Karen about Fat Loss Tip #23:
“You are so correct! I have just been diagnosed with PCOS after 10 years of guessing. Doubling my work outs, very strict diet regimes etc. with limited response in my weight. The medical system failed and just kept looking at thyroid and my sugars which have always been good………….the Endocrinologist “specialist” was a joke. She laughed that I was there because of weight issues, I went into my history and she basically said “you are a pretty woman and you carry your weight well, you need to come to terms with the fact that you will always be a heavy person and just relax. Don’t work out so hard and eat more, you are starving yourself” Needless to say I cried throughout the appt and left so discouraged. As I looked at her waiting room full overweight women I thought to myself, I should yell- run people run, this MD is NOT going to help you- RUN! She didn’t even see the need to do any lab work!
As luck would have it, I had made an appt with my nutritionist a few weeks before which happened to be the next day, thankfully! ( She helped us a lot with my son and his asthma as a young boy and then myself with weight lose about 12 years ago) Long story short, I have been losing 3 lb a week and feel great. The saliva test has shown my areas of concern and now I am on homeopathic creams, the journey continues!
Have a great holiday! I love your emails, your energy and your continual love to help and assist people in their health travels. You ROCK!”
Thank you for the note Karen! I love to hear about success stories, especially when people are told they will not succeed.
Unfortunately, every week I hear from a number of frustrated people looking for answers. Don’t give up! If you really want answers they are within reach. Keep learning, maintain on open mind and ask for help. I am here if you need a resource. I know a number of great health & wellness professionals that you can count on for answers.
I recently wrote an article “25 Tips to Avoid Holiday Weight Gain” for my column in Parenting on the Peninsula. I am taking one of those 25 Holiday Tips for Fat Loss #25-Treat Yourself With A Reward Each Week (Not Food)!
At the end of each week take the time to reward yourself for successfully completing each scheduled workout. Keep in mind that less than 50% of Americans are exercising enough to meet the exercise guidelines for healthy adults. You are achieving more movement than most and you deserve recognition for taking care of you!
Don’t use food as a reward since you’ll be taking in extra calories as it is during the holiday season. A massage, a new outfit, a leisurely hour spent at a coffee shop or even a well-deserved nap are all great ways to reward yourself.
Many programs out there do use food as a reward and have success. If it works for you… great, but it definitely doesn’t work for everyone. Initially, when I work with clients one on one, I am generally not a fan of moderation and weekly cheat days. My goal is to get a client to reach their goals in the least time possible, without restricting calories, but removing as many potential stressors as possible. If a food is causing stress, even one time a week, it can really set you back.
I have found that even though a cheat day works well mentally because you know you can, it tends to slow down the results. With a fast transformation, there is the motivation to keep going because you realize that this time around you really can lose the body fat.
Have a great weekend and reward yourself for your achievements!
