The Scientific 7-Minute Workout (New York Times)

Did you know that the exercises and program design we do at Shamp’s Boot Camps are scientifically proven to work?

More and more research is coming out showing the benefits of high intensity training, but here is a recent research study–> May-June issue of the American College of Sports Medicine’s Health & Fitness Journal

I have experimented with many programs and modalities over the last 23 years and I have found that most people do very well with body weight-based programs and high-intensity interval training of 20-40s in duration, 2-3x per week.

As stated in the New York Times, “Work by scientists at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, and other institutions shows, for instance, that even a few minutes of training at an intensity approaching your maximum capacity produces molecular changes within muscles comparable to those of several hours of running or bike riding.”

Why waste your time with long, aerobic bouts on the elliptical or treadmill when you can get better results in less time?

Find yourself a personal trainer or boot camp program that will coach you on high intensity interval training.

A word of caution…most people can’t go right into high intensity interval training given it is too intense. Start slow, work on good, quality movements and progress intensity over a month or so.

Our boot camp programs are 50 minutes each session, but the main workouts are approximately 30 minutes. That is all the stimulus you need for a good fat loss exercise program. When you go beyond 3x per week and 30 minutes in duration with high intensity exercise, it becomes difficult to recover and hormones become imbalanced, defeating the overall purpose.
